Greetings from The Aero Experience Team

The Aero Experience is a celebration of Midwest aviation and aerospace achievement. We invite you to join us as we explore the treasures of Midwest aviation through first-hand experiences. Our contributors take turns flying lead, and we are always looking for new destinations. Check in with The Aero Experience frequently to see where we will land today, and then go out and have your own aero experiences!

John W. Mangan II, Trojan Horsemen Alternate Wing pilot, was killed yesterday at a performance at the Blue Ridge Airshow at the Martinsburg Air National Guard base in West Virginia.  His Trojan Horsemen biography mentions that Mangan was a graduate of the USAF Academy, spent 13 years active duty as an Air Force fighter pilot flying over 2500 hours in the F-15 and F-4 aircraft. His aviation awards include three Meritorious Service Medals and Tactical Air Command's Instructor Pilot of the Year.  He had over 4000 hours and held Airline Transport Pilot and sailplane ratings.  Mangan performed with The Trojan Horsemen at the Scott AFB airshow September 2008.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and the airshow community.
