THE US AIR FORCE THUNDERBIRDS AIR DEMONSTRATION SQUADRON
The United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron, commonly known as the “Thunderbirds” were first formed at Luke Air Force Base, just west of Phoenix, AZ in 1953. The squadron’s six demonstration pilots, plus the air show Advance Pilot/Narrator and Operations Officer fly the Lockheed F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft. Annual Winter training takes place in January through February at their home base located at Nellis AFB, NV (near Las Vegas). The start of the air show season then begins in March and ends in November. The 2012 Thunderbirds team will be performing at more than 66 air shows at some 34 different locations throughout the United States this year, including Scott AFB, IL.
