EAA Webinar Focuses on Reliability-Centered Maintenance
By Carmelo Turdo
Tonight's EAA webinar focused on reliability-centered maintenance - the concept that more aircraft safety and reliability can be obtained in a cost-effective manner by doing less invasive maintenance than with the traditional time-directed maintenance method. Our presenter was Mr. Mike Busch, CFI, A&P (Inspection), Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year (2008) and President of Savvy Aircraft Maintenance Management. As a maintenance advisor, Mr. Busch has researched the evolution of aviation safety and reliability methodologies, and has determined that reliability-centered maintenance, as practiced by commercial airlines and most jet aircraft operators, is preferable to current time-directed maintenance practiced in most of General Aviation. The webinar was well-produced and delivered with authority, making a strong case for reliability-centered maintenance through practical examples from Mr. Busch's experience in the field. It is highly recommended that anyone involved in general aviation as a pilot or maintainer view the webinar in the EAA archives.
