The Aero Experience is a celebration of Midwest aviation and aerospace achievement. We invite you to join us as we explore the treasures of Midwest aviation through first-hand experiences. Our contributors take turns flying lead, and we are always looking for new destinations. Check in with The Aero Experience frequently to see where we will land today, and then go out and have your own aero experiences!

Memorial Day Weekend Salute to Veterans Corporation Airshow Confirms Performers for May Event

By Carmelo Turdo
The Memorial Day Weekend Salute to Veterans Corporation has confirmed airshow performers and display aircraft for this year's event at Columbia, MO Regional Airport May 25-26.  The show must go on, as it has for the previous 24 years, despite the cancellation of U.S. military participation and looming control tower closure at the airport (now postponed until June 15).  But thanks to the loyal civilian airshow performers, the Canadian Forces Skyhawks Parachute Demonstration Team, and a variety of ramp attractions, there will be plenty of excitement for all guests.

Confirmed airshow participants include:
P-51D Mustang "Gunfighter," Aeroshell, MO CAF B-25J Mitchell, Trojan Phlyers, BT-13 "Valiant Echoes," Navy Aerobatics SNJ-5 Texan, Canadian Forces Skyhawks, and the Kansas City Dawn Patrol.  Other aircraft on display will include (in addition to the above performing aircraft): Supermarine Seafire Mk.XV, MO CAF TBM Avenger, 3 T-6 Texans, P-51 Mustang "Archie," Stearman A75L3, Siai-Marchetti SM.1019, and Piper L-4 among others. For a taste of what you will see at this year's airshow, here is a look back at some of the 2012 participants:
