Greetings from The Aero Experience Team

Greetings!

The Aero Experience is a celebration of Midwest aviation and aerospace achievement. We invite you to join us as we explore the treasures of Midwest aviation through first-hand experiences. Our contributors take turns flying lead, and we are always looking for new destinations. Check in with The Aero Experience frequently to see where we will land today, and then go out and have your own aero experiences!

Fair St. Louis Airshow Cancelled, Two Other Area Events Rise to the Challenge

By Carmelo Turdo
The St. Louis area is seeing some changes in the Midwest Aviation entertainment scene this year, with one event cancelled but two more added.  Just unofficially announced tonight, the Fair St. Louis Airshow scheduled for the July 4  holiday has been cancelled due to the change of venue from the Mississippi Riverfront near the Gateway Arch to Forest Park, located near the center of the city.  A major construction project involving the Gateway Arch grounds precluded using the traditional Fair St. Louis site, but hopes for continuing the airshow were buoyed by an April 8 statement from St. Louis Mayor Slay that there would be an airshow.  That is apparently no longer the case.  Thankfully, two other events will make their debuts in the area to celebrate Midwest Aviation.

http://www.spirit-airshow.com/The Spirit of St. Louis Airshow and STEM Expo, scheduled for this weekend, will take place at Spirit of St. Louis Airport and feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron.  The last airshow at the airport, held in 2007 as part of the annual St. Louis County Fair and Airshow, also hosted the Blue Angels. Although there is no promise of another edition next year, the airshow will be flown by top-tier performers including Patty Wagstaff, Michael Goulian, Skip Stewart, and a host of warbirds.  And thankfully, it will be held in early May rather than mid-July!

http://www.airandspacemuseum.org/fun-days.phpAnother new event is the Midwest Airport Fun Days to be held June 7-8 at St. Louis Downtown Airport.  Although not an airshow per se, it will provide access to aviation and in a family-friendly environment.  Visitors will be able to interact with pilots in their vintage, warbird, trainer and aerobatic aircraft with frequent fly-bys throughout the weekend.  Flights are available in the Missouri Commemorative Air Force B-25 and TBM Avenger, AT-6 Texan and Waco biplane.  The event will also feature car shows, motorcycles, concerts, great food and more!

http://aeroexperience.blogspot.com/The St. Louis area aviation community will again show its strength with these new events and the many others that will be produced at local airports throughout the region.  Of course, The Aero Experience will be there to bring those experiences to you and encourage everyone to go and experience aviation!
