2015 Owensboro Airshow: Thursday Thunderbirds Arrival

By Leo Cachat
The 2015 Owensboro Airshow promised to be a good one, with a great line up of top-notch civilian and military performers. The attention getter was of course the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds jet demonstration team, but the line up also included the R.C.A.F. CF-18 demo and Greg Colyer flying the T-33 Ace Maker. Mike Goulian, Matt Younkin, Gene Soucy and John Klatt were there to show what top-tier aerobatic airshow flying looks like.  Throw in the B-17 Yankee Lady, the Tennessee Ridge Runners flying a T-6, two T-34's and a TBM and you have the makings of a great airshow.

We arrived Thursday at around noon to hopefully check in to our hotel and make it to Mid America Jet to photograph the Thunderbirds arrival, but complications at the hotel had us photographing the arrival from the end of the runway outside of the fence.  After checking into our hotel, we ate dinner and went back to Mid America Jet to see if we could get some shots of the aircraft with the sun setting behind them. The fine folks at Mid America Jet escorted us onto the ramp and allowed us to get the images you see below. The Aero Experience would like to thank Mid America Jet for the access and we'd also like to thank Supply Specialist Bryan Antunes of the Thunderbirds for taking the time to talk with us as we photographed the beautiful aircraft.  This was a great start to what would surely be a great 3 days in Owensboro.
