EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016: Jet Warbirds - Cold War Jet Fighters

Fred Harl and Carmelo Turdo
http://www.airassociatesinc.com/The Aero Experience concludes our series on jet warbirds with this look at classic Cold War jet fighters - The North American F-86 Sabre and Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 Fresco.  Both came of age in armed conflict - the Korean War and the Vietnam War respectively - and also held the defensive line during the Cold War in many countries.  There were several examples of each jet available for viewing on the Warbirds Area apron and during the airshows, and we have some views of them on display and during takeoff and landing.  We featured these and other jet warbirds in formation in a previous post.

The F-86 Sabres in this story include both North American F-86F and Canadair F-86E Mk.6 models:

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 family of jet fighters proliferated among allies of the then USSR, and were produced in Poland as the Lim-5 and Lim-6 and in China as the J-5 series.  The striped MiG-17 is a Polish made Lim-6 and the silver MiG-17PF is a Polish made Lim-5 flown by airshow performer Randy Ball.
