Looking Back at 2016: Red Bull Racers, Aerobatic Aircraft Visit Farmington Regional Airport

By Fred Harl
The summer aviation entertainment season is firmly upon us in the Midwest, and we take a slight diversion from our current series to present several stories relating to air racing and aerobatic flying.  In this edition, we look back at last fall when several Red Bull racers made fuel stops at Farmington Regional Airport following the Indianapolis Red Bull Air Races in October.  Matthias Dolderer from Germany, the winner of the 2016 Indianapolis Red Bull Race, and Christian Bolton, from Chile, continued to be part of the Midwest Aviation story at least for a brief moment.

At other times during last year, aerobatic pilots made fuel stops at Farmington Regional Airport, including Craig Gifford in his U.S. Aerobatic Team competition Panzel S-330, an Extra EA-330L from Aero-Bats in Naperville, IL and a Christen Eagle II owned by Bill and Arlene Sommer.
