Scott AFB Holds Military Appreciation Day In Preparation for Weekend Airshow

By Carmelo Turdo
Scott Air Force Base held their military appreciation day Friday as the base prepared for its Centennial Airshow this weekend.  Military members and veterans were invited to tour the static aircraft displays and view the airshow practice sessions on yet another ideal summer day.  The Scott AFB Command and Public Affairs staff also provided another day for media to visit and report the day's activities.  The Aero Experience was again there, and we bring this short photo essay as a preview of tomorrow's opening airshow day.

Former Cardinals Pitcher Brad Thompson received a ride with the USAF Thunderbirds at 10:30 this morning.

Current military aircraft from around the country were on display.

Airshow performers include:

The U.S. Army Special Operations Black Daggers

Kevin Coleman flew with the Black Daggers and flew his own show

Friends of Jenny taxied out their 100 year old restored Curtiss Jenny

Aircraft based at Scott AFB include KC-135R and C-40

C-17A Globemaster III Demonstration

U.S. Navy Super Hornet Demo Team

Greg "Wired" Colyer flies the T-33 Ace Maker II

Scott Yoak flies P-51D Mustang Quick Silver

USAF Thunderbirds flew their famous formations and solo passes

These are merely the highlights of Friday's activities, and more static aircraft displays and additional airshow performers are scheduled for the weekend airshow.  See the full lineup and be part of the excitement of this incredible Midwest Aviation event.  The Aero Experience thanks the Scott AFB Command and Public Affairs staff for their excellent coordination and accommodation of the media representatives this week, and we wish them a great centennial celebration!
