EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018: Airshows - World War II Training Gliders
|
By Fred Harl |
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 featured many well-known airshow performers during the week, but one of the most unique flying demonstrations involved two World War II-era training gliders from the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum. The gliders were towed and released, landing back on the runway before the crowd. The gliders included here are developments of liaison aircraft of the time: 1943 Piper TG-8 (L-4) and the 1942 Taylorcraft TG-6 (L-2). Both aircraft accommodated a crew of 3 - instructor in the rear seat, beginning student in the middle seat and advanced student in the front seat. Most of these aircraft were converted back to powered aircraft and sold as surplus after the war.
