EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 featured some USAF heavy metal in the daily airshows, and here we feature the icons of strategic bombing and airlift - Boeing B-52H Stratofortress and the McDonnell Douglas (Boeing) C-17A Globemaster III. The B-52H is a "later production" bomber (1961) named Hawg Wild from Barksdale AFB, LA that has nearly completed its sixth decade in service. The C-17A is a 2004 production jet from the 97th AMW, Air Education and Training Command, Altus AFB, OK. Along with training C-17 and tanker crews, the wing deploys several hundred personnel annually in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
