EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019: Warbirds - Transports

The Aero Experience continues our coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation, with this look at warbird transports. The iconic Beech 18 family is represented here by an RC-45J photo reconnaissance model based in Michigan. This aircraft was used in survey work in post-war years after serving stateside in trainer and coastal roles during World War II. Also included here is the Shorts Sherpa transport currently used by the U.S. Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, to support firefighting operations. The Sherpa dates back to the 1980s, and has recently been fitted with updated cockpit displays and other upgrades. It is not generally called a "warbird," though it is often seen in the Warbirds Area and also on display in Boeing Plaza.
