Spirit of St. Louis Airshow: Warbird and Cold War Era Aviation

The Spirit of St. Louis Airshow continues through this weekend, and we have just started to cover the variety of aircraft participating in this great Midwest Aviation event.  The lineup for the airshow includes the world famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels Flight Demonstration Squadron and top-tier performers like Patty Wagstaff, Skip Stewart and Michael Goulian.  Also part of this great airshow are the warbirds - the aircraft that helped win World War II  - and early Cold War Era aviation.  The classic warbirds - the EAA B-17 Flying Fortress "Aluminum Overcast," B-25 Mitchell "Show Me," and a host of former U.S. Naval Aviation combat aircraft were prominently featured.  Here is a short survey of the warbirds that participated in today's activities (photos by Mark Nankivil):
