Large Model of Vickers Vimy "City of London" Now on Display at the Gateway Youth Aeronautical Foundation

By Carmelo Turdo
The Gateway Youth Aeronautical Foundation recently received a unique donation - a large model of Vickers Vimy G-EASI, City of London. A civil derivation of the bomber that entered service with the Royal Air Force in 1918, the Vimy Commercial became Britain's standard transport and airliner, with this particular aircraft serving Instone Air Line on the London-Paris-Brussels-Cologne route in the early 1920s. A similar aircraft was used in the first non-stop flight across the Atlantic Ocean by John Alcock and Arthur Brown in 1919 as well as for long-distance flights to Australia and South Africa.

The Gateway Youth Aeronautical Foundation invites you to visit them at Creve Coeur Airport.

  1. Very interesting. This appears to be the 1/5 model by K&W Model Airplanes. The assembly instructions can be found on the internet. Wingspan is 4.15m/13.6ft and it's not just a static model - you can install engines and RC equipment and fly it!
