Ultralight to Gulfstream: Recent Airport Visits Produce New Photo Survey

By Carmelo Turdo
The Aero Experience has been in the air and on the road daily searching out great Midwest Aviation stories, some of which will be posted soon. During our recent visits to several Midwest airports, we have seen some great aircraft and have met some interesting people. As the title suggests, we will include in this photo essay aircraft designs in the ultralight, light sport, experimental, general aviation, aerobatic and business aviation sectors.

Sullivan Field Airport, Valmeyer, IL

Home to ultralight, light sport, experimental and general aviation aircraft, this farm turned airfield is the setting for our upcoming story about our friend Travis Roberts' ultralight and light sport Quicksilver flights. Here we have a Kolb ultralight and Roberts' Quicksilver 2-seat Light Sport Aircraft.

St. Louis Downtown Airport, Cahokia, IL

St. Louis Downtown Airport is located just east of St. Louis within view of the Gateway Arch. The third busiest airport in IL, it is home to Parks College, the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum, Big River Aviation, Gateway Jets and numerous other aviation businesses. Here we feature a selection of general aviation aircraft and business jets.

Washington, MO Regional Airport

Washington Regional Airport is currently undergoing partial apron reconstruction near the terminal hangar, but there is still access to the remaining apron and hangars. A variety of  aircraft can be seen using the runway for touch-and-go landing practice, and the airport is home to airshow pilot Patrick McAlee's Pitts Special.
