EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018: Boeing Plaza - A Century of Warbirds

By Fred Harl
The Aero Experience concludes our coverage of Boeing Plaza static displays with this look at a century of warbirds. Featured here is a 1918 Dayton-Wright DH.4 with a Liberty engine. The aircraft was restored by Friends of Jenny, featured in our previous coverage of their JN-4 Jenny aircraft. The aircraft is believed to be the last airframe in North America, and it was the only combat aircraft type produced by the U.S. during World War I. Next we include a variety of training and combat aircraft representing the Royal Air Force, including Spitfire and Meteor fighters from the World War II and post-war era. Lastly, we have the Boeing B-29, Doc, only the second of its type still flying today and a tribute to the team that made her presence there possible.
