EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018: Boeing Plaza - U.S. Army and Coast Guard Aircraft

By Fred Harl
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 offered a mix of U.S. Army and Coast Guard aircraft on static display in Boeing Plaza. Army aviation was represented by fixed and rotary wing aircraft, including the MC-12 Liberty (Hawker Beechcraft Super King Air 350) that serves as an aerial intelligence gathering and command center platform. The MC-12 crews can turn the tide of battle quickly by coordinating fire from ground forces or air assets to eliminate the threat to friendly forces. Other Army aircraft on display include the Boeing MH-47 Chinook and the AH-64 Apache Longbow, the mainstay of Army transport and air support units. The U.S. Coast Guard display included the principle search and rescue helicopters: MH-65D Dolphin from CGAS Detroit and MH-60T Jayhawk from CGAS Traverse City, MI.
