The Aero Experience continues our coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation, with this look at the annual Veterans Breakfast held on Friday in the Partner Resource Center. Several hundred current and former military service members, including our own U.S. Air Force veteran Fred Harl, received a great breakfast and inspirational presentation by U.S. Air Force Colonel Kim Campbell.
Colonel Campbell learned to fly as a CAP Cadet, graduated as Cadet Wing Commander from the U.S. Air Force Academy, has served in key combat and advisory roles and continues to mentor and lead others toward achieving their professional goals. She is currently on staff at the U.S. Air Force Academy, but is better known for bringing back her severely damaged A-10 Warthog jet using only the manual control system following a mission over Iraq in 2003. This rare accomplishment earned her the Distinguished Flying Cross, the nation's highest award for airmanship. She flew again the next day, assisting in a search mission for a fellow A-10 pilot downed near Baghdad.
Here we include some views of the Veterans Breakfast and Colonel Campbell's presentation. The Aero Experience thanks all military veterans for their service to our nation, and we also thank EAA for holding this annual event.
