EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016: Experimental Aircraft - Introduction

Fred Harl and Carmelo Turdo
http://www.airassociatesmo.com/tae/EAA has it's roots in the development and promotion of experimental (i.e. homebuilt) aircraft.  Even though EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016 featured many types of aircraft, the experimental aircraft industry exhibitors and aircraft construction skill forums and workshop leaders interacted with hundreds of thousands of visitors and participants.

This first feature in The Aero Experience coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2016 experimental aircraft will include an overview of the types we saw around the grounds from the first weekend to the last day.  We will feature specific aircraft models in future posts this month.

Part of the EAA AirVenture experience is a visit to the EAA AirVenture Museum, a jewel of homebuilt aviation history housed in a beautiful, modern facility at nearby Pioneer Airport.  Along with the main gallery featured here, there are other hangars with aircraft on display across the grounds near KidVenture and the helicopter ride staging area.  Included in this feature are the homebuilt aerobatic, racing and experimental aircraft, including record-breaking Rutan designs that have become aviation legends due in part to the advocacy efforts of the Experimental Aircraft Association.
