The Salute to Veterans Corporation provided an opportunity for military veterans to enjoy their own airshow Friday morning prior to this weekend's public activities. Veterans were brought to the ramp to view the aircraft as they taxied out and performed their aerobatic routines. They were also able to meet the pilots and have their picture taken with the aircraft, namely P-51D Mustang "Gunfighter" and the T-28B Trojan from the Trojan Phlyers Team. This simple but profound gesture of giving the first performance to military veterans is typical of how members of the Midwest Aviation community, many of whom are veterans, work together to honor our nation's service members. Here is more coverage of Friday's special airshow and ramp displays for veterans:
Rod Hightower and his Boeing (Stearman) A75L3
Michael Kennedy and the BT-13A Valiant Echoes
Lee Maples' F-51D Mustang "Archie"
Larry Lumpkin and P-51D Mustang "Gunfighter"
Supermarine Seafire XV
John Lohmar and the North American SNJ-5 Texan
Clyde Zellers and the North American SNJ-5 Texan Navy Aerobatics
Aeroshell Team North American Texans
Trojan Flyers Team T-28B
Veterans With the Aircraft
