Owensboro, KY Airshow Preview: The 4CE, Warbirds and Jets Provide High-Flying Excitement

By Leo Cachat
The Aero Experience had the pleasure of spending the day in Owensboro, KY for the practice airshow and night show which the City of Owensboro puts on annually. Practice started off cloudy, but the skies were clearing by the end of the practice. All performers took to the sky, with the exception of the U.S. Army Golden Knights who were held back due to the clouds and stiff wind that was ushering in a cold front. Performers included: Rob Holland, Bill Stein, Jack Knutson, our old friend and quite a surprise, the PV-2 Harpoon "Attu Warrior" made several passes down the river. Other participants were the TBM Avenger "Tennessee Ridge Runner II", The CAF MO Wing B-25 "Show Me", Randy Ball in his MiG-17 Fresco, three beautifully painted T-34 Mentors, and the Douglas A-4 Skyhawk.  Rob Holland, Bill Stein and Jack Knutson also flew together as the 4CE aerobatic team.

The night show was cancelled after an hour due to heavy rains and wind that blew through the area, but the hour allowed for some nice photographic opportunities and was definitely worth the ride over. Tomorrow, The Aero Experience will be on the banks of the Ohio River covering the action of the Saturday show.  Until then, here is a photographic preview of Friday's flying.
