Boeing 737: Midwest Aviation Commercial Airline Workhorse
|
By Carmelo Turdo |
The Boeing 737 family of commercial jetliners has been a staple of most airlines in the U.S. and around the world since the late 1960s. The aircraft fit nicely into the Boeing 707 and 727 family of jets, even using the same upper fuselage for production compatibility and to save time getting the aircraft into service. The 100-200 series numbered over 1,800 before the Classic 737-300 and later models were introduced, featuring turbofan engines and more passenger capacity. Nearly 2,000 of those were produced before the Next Generation series was introduced in the late 1990s.
Featured here is a selection of later model 737s seen in the Midwest, including those flown by commercial airlines, charter services, private owners as the Boeing Business Jet and by the U.S. Air Force as the C-40 Clipper.
