Midwest Regional Safety Seminar Held at Spirit of St. Louis Airport

By Carmelo Turdo
The Midwest Regional Safety Seminar, hosted by the FAA Safety Team, the Greater St. Louis Rotor & Wing Association, Air Evac Life Team and St. Louis Magneto Service was held Saturday, October 29, at Spirit of St. Louis Airport. Attendance counted towards the FAA's WINGS Pilot Proficiency Program. Registration opened at 7:00 A.M. and the program ran from 7:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. A variety of topics were discussed, all applicable to fixed wing and rotorcraft flight.

Along with the sessions listed above, there were opportunities to network and learn about local aviation businesses. Gateway Flight Solutions continued their support of aviation safety programs with staff attendance and a display table with their latest avionics product offerings designed to make flying safer with more reliable instrument displays. Gateway Flight Solutions provides installation and upgrade services for Avidyne, Aspen and Dynon products along with their flight training program at Creve Coeur Airport.

A staple of safety seminars over the years is the door prize drawing, where corporate swag, reference materials and aviation gadgets are offered as attendance perks. Some nice items were available again this year as shown here awaiting distribution at the end of the program.

The Aero Experience coverage includes some views of the mid-morning presentations by Dr. Pierre Moeser addressing the CBD/THC issue and Fred Harms with his look at human factors in aviation accidents.

Following his presentation, Fred Harms was given a token of appreciation from Bill Hopper for his many years of work in aviation safety and accident prevention as a regular presenter at events such as the Midwest Regional Safety Seminar.

The Aero Experience thanks everyone who contributed to making the Midwest Regional Safety Seminar a great success. We look forward to covering more aviation safety programs such as this in the coming year.
