The seventh session of the Intro to Flight program was held at the Gateway Youth Aeronautical Foundation (GYAF)
on Saturday. The morning and afternoon classes began with a motivational talk by special guest Allyssa VanMeter, also known as Fly Allyssa, a commercial pilot currently flying a Cessna Grand Caravan for a national real estate survey company. The students learned to plot courses on sectional charts and calculate basic flight plan data. They also honed their flying skills with graded pattern flying on the virtual-reality sims, the winner receiving a nice hooded sweatshirt provided by Intro to Flight sponsor Piston Aviation. Thanks to instructor Dave Kleinschmidt and all who helped make this another great learning experience.
Next weekend will be the eighth, and final session of Intro to Flight for the first two Saturday classes. The Aero Experience will have full coverage of the combined class activities and graduation along with other programs offered by the GYAF in coming weeks.
