Flying the Cherokee Around St. Louis Downtown Airport

The Aero Experience was in the air again recently, this time in a Piper Cherokee flown by EAA Chapter 64 member Paul Voorhees. We flew a few patterns around St. Louis Downtown Airport, passing by the control tower to Runway 5. After takeoff, a right standard pattern brought us over the Jet Aviation terminal and surrounding areas on the way back to the runway for touch-and go's. We eventually taxied back to the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum historic Curtiss-Wright Hangar 2 before securing the aircraft in its hangar later.

Experience flew along with Trent Duff, member of the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum, in his Cessna 172 from Cahokia, IL to Fredericktown, MO. Part of the hour-long flight followed the Mississippi River south from St. Louis, with the remainder over refineries and fields. Several other aircraft flew in that day, and after getting some lunch and visiting with local pilots, we returned to St. Louis Downtown Airport and the museum.

EAA 64 and The Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum Host Successful Fly-In

The Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum and EAA Chapter 64 hosted a successful open house and fly-in Saturday at historic Curtiss-Wright Hangar 2, St. Louis Downtown Airport. Visitors toured the museum's aerospace history galleries and viewed the aircraft parked in the hangar and on the adjacent ramp. The F-4 Phantom II fighter jet cockpit and child moving flight simulator were popular, and the pancake breakfast and burger/brat lunch kept everyone satisfied throughout the hot day. Special thanks to all of those who flew in from other home airports to visit with us and show off your aircraft. Another fly-in is being planned for the fall, so look for further details in September.
