Winter Weather Brings Fog, Ice and Flooding to the Midwest

Winter in the Midwest this year produced dramatic temperature swings as the cold snap continued through much of the new year. The change from the warm extended fall to an abrupt deep freeze produced some spectacular weather phenomena, including long-lasting fogs and ice on the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers. In the following photo essay, we feature a foggy day at Farmington Regional Airport and also some views of the airport following an early snowfall. We then took several flights over the Mississippi River in the Ste. Genevieve, MO area to show the ice flows and flooding resulting from the rapid change in weather conditions this month. When taking reasonable precautions, winter flying can be safe, fun and beautiful.
