Midwest Aviation Week in Review

By Carmelo Turdo
The Aero Experience continues to provide coverage of Midwest Aviation events, and prepare feature stories, through the busy month of October. We are fortunate to have so much activity planned for the fall season, and we thank our aviation community for offering these opportunities. Here we include a survey of recent events and interesting places we visited this weekend, with more detailed coverage coming soon!

Southwest Illinois College Manufacturing Day, Granite City Campus

Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) held Manufacturing Day for over a thousand high school students on Friday at the Granite City campus. Local businesses and trades organizations provided exhibits, and SWIC provided tours of their training facilities along with lunch.

AMVETS Post 51, Granite City, IL Park District

The Aero Experience periodically tours the local areas surrounding our event spaces and features our coverage here and in the Out and About the Midwest blog site. After covering the Manufacturing Day event shown above, we revisited the AMVETS Post 51 F-84F Thunderstreak (s/n 51-9451) jet display adjacent Wilson Park in Granite City.

Creve Coeur Airport General Aviation and Gateway Flight Training

Also on Friday, we went to Creve Coeur Airport to capture some general aviation activity, including the departure of an Embraer EMB-545 (Praetor 500). We also visited Gateway Flight Training, including their maintenance hangar and training fleet operations.

Wings of Hope Pulling for Hope Plane Pull Fundraiser

On Saturday, Wings of Hope held their Pulling for Hope plane pull fundraising event at their Spirit of St. Louis Airport world headquarters. 11 teams competed in Pulling for Hope, and Team 11, "Hockey Heroes for Hope," was the winner!
