Greetings from The Aero Experience Team

The Aero Experience is a celebration of Midwest aviation and aerospace achievement. We invite you to join us as we explore the treasures of Midwest aviation through first-hand experiences. Our contributors take turns flying lead, and we are always looking for new destinations. Check in with The Aero Experience frequently to see where we will land today, and then go out and have your own aero experiences!

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014: Homebuilt, Light Sport and Ultralight Aircraft Series Begins

Fred Harl and Carmelo Turdo Aero Experience rejoins our year-long coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 with a series featuring homebuilt, light sport and ultralight aircraft similar to those we saw at the recent Midwest LSA Expo.  Among the ten thousand aircraft that cycled through Wittman Regional Airport during our visit were an abundance of homebuilt aircraft, the core the EAA movement.  Many of them were the very popular Vans RV series sporting conventional and tricycle landing gear.  There were also light sport aircraft, including the homebuilt and factory-built variety.  Ultralights even had their own strip at the south end of the grounds.

This introduction includes a variety of aircraft displayed in the parking areas spanning the length of the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 grounds.  We will feature various aircraft in these classes over the next few weeks in between our current event posts.  At least one of the aircraft sported a decal like the one at left, commemorating the infamous severe weather episode at Sun n' Fun 2011.
