Flying Dutchmen Airport Fall Chili Fly-In a Seasonal Favorite

By Mark Nankivil
It was time again Sunday for another Chili Fly-In at Flying Dutchmen Airport and the weather this year was simply spectacular, as was the chili. Turn out was nice, with a wide variety of aircraft dropping in, including Mark Schuler's Nanchang CJ-6A, Bruce Ballew's Pitts S2B and Mark & Elaine Harter's 1937 WACO YKS-7.  A number of other types included RVs, Colts, Cessnas, Cubs and Luscombes and the Pietenpol Air Camper featured in the movie, Fly Now!  This scribe was very happy to see Carol Bell with her recently restored 1941 Piper J-3 Cub - the Cub looked great in the afternoon sun.  It was easy to fill up on Chili and grilled hot dogs while talking to friends and enjoying the fine Fall day.  The property on which the Flying Dutchmen Airport is located is up for sale, so moments like this are to be treasured and enjoyed.  Here are some views of the day's activities:
