Greetings from The Aero Experience Team

Greetings!

The Aero Experience is a celebration of Midwest aviation and aerospace achievement. We invite you to join us as we explore the treasures of Midwest aviation through first-hand experiences. Our contributors take turns flying lead, and we are always looking for new destinations. Check in with The Aero Experience frequently to see where we will land today, and then go out and have your own aero experiences!

Blue skies,

EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019: General Aviation - The Cessna 172 Skyhawk

The Aero Experience continues our general aviation aircraft theme with a look at the classic Cessna 172 Skyhawk series from our signature year-round coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation. The Cessna (now Textron) 172 Skyhawk series has been in production since 1956, with an 11-year pause between the 172P and 172R models. Airframe changes included sweeping the vertical tail and increasing the gross weight and engine horsepower ratings. The 172RG Cutlass retractable landing gear model was produced between 1980 and 1984, and some other models have been converted to fly with diesel and electric powerplants. Found at every general aviation airport and fly-in, the iconic Cessna 172 aircraft is commonly used in flight schools across the country in the current 172SP steam gauge or Garmin G1000 panel layouts.

Here we include Cessna 172 Skyhawks seen around the grounds from the still wet arrival weekend through departures on the following Saturday:
