Coast Guard HC-27J Spartan Makes Visit to St. Louis

By Carmelo Turdo
A U.S. Coast Guard HC-27J Spartan made an overnight stop at St. Louis Downtown Airport this week. The aircraft is based at U.S. Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City, NC, home of the C-27J Asset Project Office and other support service units serving the Fifth Coast Guard District. The base was also the site of the modification of the 14 aircraft to active service after transfer from U.S. Air Force stocks in storage in Tucson, AZ.

The HC-27 Spartan, based on the Alenia G.222 medium transport, has been modified to serve a variety of maritime patrol, surveillance, search and rescue, transport and related missions. This aircraft is shown on the Jet Aviation apron awaiting pickup of personnel before takeoff.
