Young Eagle Flights were given Saturday to over 30 youth participating in a summer camp program sponsored by Strength and Honor Mentoring and Tutoring and the City of Ferguson, MO. EAA Chapter 64 provided six pilots and aircraft for the flights, staging from the Greater St. Louis Air & Space Museum at St. Louis Downtown Airport. The campers were flown over local landmarks such as GCS Ballpark, Cahokia Mounds, Horseshoe Lake, Gateway Motorsports Park, and St. Louis riverfront before returning to the airport.
Strength and Honor Mentoring and Tutoring (SAH) engages directly with Ferguson youth through a program that helps to build character and academic achievement. Founded by former All-American Wrestling Champion and Ferguson-Florissant School District teacher Albert Harrold, SAH offers one-on-one academic tutoring, mentoring for boys and co-ed summer camps that offer positive experiences like these Young Eagle Flights. Between flights, the campers toured the museum and learned more about aviation and space travel.
The Aero Experience thanks all involved with organizing the summer camp and arranging the flights. Some views of the flights can be seen below:
