EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017: Airshows - Heritage Flights

By Fred Harl
The Aero Experience returns to our coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2017 with a look at the Heritage Flights performed during the afternoon airshows.  The Heritage Flight is a combined effort between military and certified civilian pilots to display past and current military aircraft in formation at airshows around the country.  It began in 1997 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the U.S. Air Force, and has continued with only a few exceptions annually since then.  Featured here are three Heritage Flight formations featuring the current U.S. Air Force A-10C and F-35A jets and the classic P-51 Mustang warbird representing a past generation of aviation.  Included in the middle sequence is the Missing Man Formation dedicated to the Late Vlado Lenoch.
