The Aero Experience flew in to Mount Vernon Outland Airport aboard Alex Acevedo's Grumman Tiger, and returned to St. Louis Downtown Airport later in the day aboard Mark Schuler's Nanchang CJ-6. Along with flying in for the $100 hamburger (or buffet in this case), we used the occasion to get some air-to-air coverage for a future story and video. Upon arrival, we met up with our friend, Anita Mack, who flew in with her Piper J-5/HE-1 medical evacuation aircraft.
Other aircraft also flew in throughout the day:
EAA Chapter 1155 offered Young Eagle flights to youth aged 8-17:
The car show, featuring the Street Outlaws of Southern Illinois, is a favorite feature of the annual Wings, Wheels and Rotors event:
The "Rotors" portion of the event included a static display and flying demonstration of the Bell UH-1H utility helicopter operated by Kash Helicopter Services based at the airport. This helicopter can be used for agricultural applications and other sling-load specialty operations.
The Aero Experience thanks Airport Manager Chris Collins, EAA Chapter 1155, Bonnie Café and everyone who contributed to making the 2019 Wings, Wheels and Rotors a great Midwest Aviation event.
