The Aero Experience continues with our coverage
of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation, with this look at the
tankers - the unsung heroes of military aviation – on display in Boeing Plaza. The
U.S. Air Force's 128th ARW, Wisconsin Air National Guard, displayed one of its
Boeing KC-135R Stratotankers. The unit's tankers regularly provide in-flight
refueling services in the U.S. and when deployed around the world. The unit was founded in 1947 flying fighter aircraft, and it has
performed the aerial refueling mission since 1962 flying the KC-97 before receiving KC-135s in 1977. This aerial refueling tanker represents 60 years of
service for this particular jet, and it will continue to serve as an air
refueling tanker for many years to come.
