EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019: Warbird Fighters - P-51 Mustang

The Aero Experience continues our coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation, with this concluding look at warbirds featuring the iconic North American P-51 and F-51 Mustang series. The Mustang was designed in just over 100 days to replace the P-40 series for British service in 1940. The Mustang's performance was such an improvement over the fighters of the day that the USAAC ordered production for what would become the long-range escort fighter that made strategic bombing of Germany possible. The rest, they say, is history.

In this expanded photo essay, we feature a variety of Mustangs on display and flying throughout the week. Included is the arrival of the beautiful P-51C, Lope's Hope, and the formation flight with a Supermarine Spitfire during the Saturday airshow.
