The Aero Experience continues our coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation, with this look at the Vought Corsair. In production from 1941 to 1952, the Corsair became a legend in the Pacific Theater of Operations in World War II and later served valiantly in Korea and with other nations around the world. Its versatility, sheer performance and ruggedness kept the Corsair in service into the 1970s in Honduras.Here we feature three Corsairs seen during the week: Vought F4U-5 Corsair from Fighters and Legends, originally a night fighter model, served in combat with the Honduran Air Force through the 1960s; Goodyear-built FG-1D Corsair operated by the Commemorative Air Force; Vought F-4U-4 Corsair, Korean War Hero, flew missions from aircraft carriers over Korea in 1951 and is currently owned and operated by Jim Tobul. This aircraft was also featured in our coverage of the airshow Legacy Flight earlier in this series.
