EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019: Warbirds - British Fighters

The Aero Experience continues our coverage of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019, sponsored by Elite Aviation, with this look at warbirds - British fighters.

The Supermarine Spitfire featured here, MK959, flown by Warren Pietsch, is shown on arrival and flying in the airshows. It served in World War II in Britain, over Normandy following the invasion of France and with the Netherlands after the war before coming into private ownership.

This Fairey Firefly represents the type of carrier-born fighter/strike aircraft that entered service late in World War II and served into the 1950s. It underwent an eight-year restoration before its public appearance in 2002, and is currently owned by Edward Kurdziel, a retired U.S. Navy aviator and airline captain.

This Hawker Sea Fury, based in Tulsa, OK, represents the type that served the Royal Navy as a fighter and multi-role combat aircraft for ten years after World War II and later in Canada. The Sea Fury remains an impressive performer, and has gained notoriety as a racing aircraft.
