Fair St. Louis Air Show 2014 - Gone But Not Forgotten - Part Four: More Aerobatic Performers

By Leo Cachat
This post looks at a long time favorite act in the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team, Jerry "Jive" Kirby and Joe "Rifle" Shetterly in their RV's, and a one of a kind act in the Red Bull Aerobatic Helicopter flown by Chuck Aaron.

The four ship T-6 Texans of the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team is one of the best airshow acts in the world. The noise, colors and precision flying these guys perform definitely gets your attention. To see these old trainers in the hands of such skilled pilots performing formation loops and barrel rolls is a real treat for the senses. The team is a crowd favorite where ever they go. The men that fly the planes are also great guys when they are on the ground - happy to talk to fans and sign autographs. It's always a treat to photograph them, and we at The Aero Experience hope to see them many times in the future.

Jerry "Jive" Kerby and Joe "Rifle" Shetterly were newcomers to Fair St. Louis. Jive flies the beautiful RV Wild Blue and Rifle flies a beautiful chrome RV. They each flew solo routines and as a team while at Fair St. Louis and it was awesome to see what they could do with their aircraft. Why you might ask? That would be because Jive has flown numerous fighter aircraft in the Air Force and Rifle is a very accomplished A-10 pilot - so seeing them put their RV's through it's paces was a great treat and we anxiously await their return to the Midwest.

The one of a kind act at the 2013 Fair St. Louis was Chuck Aaron flying the Red Bull helicopter, the worlds only aerobatic helicopter act.  I can't even begin to describe all the maneuvers Chuck performed, but his act got the attention of everyone who saw it. It was truly a pleasure to have this act in St. Louis. To show you what kind of guy Chuck is, he took The Aero Experience's own Fred Harl for a flight across the show line so he could get some crowd shots during the special needs airshow July 6th.
